About the Bute Estate
Bute Estate - with earliest records dating back to 1400 - is an ancient family-owned land management business. Today, under the umbrella of the Mount Stuart Trust, the estate remains an essential part of the very fabric of Bute itself.
Bute Estate operations control 10,900 hectares of land, of which 1,300 are commercial forestry and woodland. This covers much of the island on both sides of the Highland boundary fault. The business is diverse and active including agricultural and residential properties, forestry, sawmill, works department, gardens department and an island wide ranger service. The Bute Estate team continues to maintain, renovate and restore in our quest to rejuvenate both the Estate and the island.
